The Houston Museum Gift Shop
The Houston Museum Gift Shop, located on what was once a front porch, features items that are similar to pieces in the collection. The shop is a great source for wedding gifts and presents for other special occasions. In keeping with Anna Safley Houston’s passion for pitchers, there are many glass and ceramic pitchers for sale, along with teasets, glass paperweights and ornaments, ceramic and glass vases, plates, figurines, birthplates, hors d’oeuvres trays, seasonal objects, salt and pepper sets, teapots, ceramic boxes, casserole dishes, votives and frames.
Especially popular with customers are reproduction art glass pieces by Fenton, pressed glass reproductions by Mosser and water jugs and other glass creations by Blenko. Two local jewelry designers’ pieces are available in the shop including glass, ceramic and metal earrings, necklaces and bracelets by Denise McMillan and exquisite freshwater pearl necklaces, bracelets and earrings by Eleanor Gaither Goodson.
Mrs. Houston’s biography entitled “Always Paddle Your Own Canoe: The Life, Legend and Legacy of Anna Safley Houston,” by Tom Williams, is sold in the shop, as is the late Robert Miller’s booklet, “The Fabulous Houston.”
The shop is open during regular museum hours, and shoppers may visit there free of admission charge. Museum members receive a 10 percent discount on shop purchases. For more information, call the museum, (423) 267-7176.
